Another Show Another Closing

A couple of years ago I started getting back into amateur dramatics again. Barny Shergold, who used to be a director of PIPEX (www.pipex.net) asked me to come and audition for a role in Princess Ida. After surprising myself by actually getting the part I realized that I had really missed performance and being in the spot light and I was well and truly bitten by the bug again!

In September 2005 I was privileged to be cast as Judd Fry in the Putteridge Bury Gilbert & Sullivan society's (www.pbgs.org) production of Oklahoma! I have to say that I enjoyed myself immensely and managed to impress at least one critic who came to see the show
(http://www.royhalltheatre.com/). I have to say I don't entirely agree with Mr Hall's review of the whole production but it was very pleased to be well received by both the audiences and Mr. Hall.

We've just finished our latest production, well two productions in fact, The Zoo and H.M.S Pinafore. I was again privileged to be selected to play the character of Dick Deadeye in H.M.S Pinafore. It seems that I am destined to play the 'evil' or 'baddie' character in productions - then again anyone who has seen me will understand why!

Whilst the rest of the cast and crew can look forward to a relaxing time for the next two weeks, my work is still to be done. As treasurer for the society I now have to get all the money in, bank it and produce a statement of accounts to see if we're still financially viable! Amateur production is never a financially rewarding activity and competing for peopled attention against such mediums as the Internet, Television and games consoles is not an easy task. Still, I'm hopefully that our losses will be bearable and since we made a reasonable profit on our last show it's to be hoped we are in a good financial position to start our next production - Utopia Ltd, also known as The Flowers Of Progress (in the United States).

Utopia will bring us a brand new producer who's never worked with us before - Katie Kaminiski (I hope I've got the spelling right!) - a bona fide American lass who performs with ShowCo in Bedford. I hope the society and Katie come through the next seven months in good order! I'm sure we all will.

The whole of show week was a little weird and a huge personal issue got in the way and really made the past week a strange and unsettling experience for me. I'll post more when I feel I'm able to talk about what happened - as yet it's still too raw and close to my heart.

That's all for now - God knows who's going to read all this.
